We have not come across any significant Indian brand in the lifestyle category (fashion, furniture, etc.) in Europe. Keeping this in mind and the fact that Indian companies are producing for a large number of European labels but have not forayed into actually selling their own brand, we posed this question to a section of western and Indian audience to better understand the narrative of “brands from India”. We know that the Indian Prime Minister had launched a successful “make in India” initiative amongst others. However, there seems to be a significant gap of “brands made in India” which means brands which are produced by Indian companies, and not only products. Recently, we set out to understand why there are no known Indian brands in Europe, why Indian companies are willing to produce for other companies and are shy of investing resources in having their own brands sold outside India.
